Refill (Point pricing) - How to price different basket sizes

This is a guide on how the points pricing, as well as refill function works. This can also be used as inspiration on how to price different driving range basket sizes.

The concept behind points is very similar to how a washroom card works.

The customer has several options for topping up his card. The larger the amount you choose to top up, the more "extra amount" will be added to the wash card. When the car has to be washed, you choose between different washes, and you are charged exactly the same as other customers who pay just for a single wash. The difference is just that you got a bonus because you buy for a larger amount.

Step 1

It must be clarified how many different bucket sizes the ball machine can handle. Most can handle 3 or more. If you don't know, send a picture of the board inside the ball machine and we can clarify this. Consider having a 'warm-up basket' with fewer balls e.g. 20 pieces, which can be the starting point for additional sales of more balls. This size will then typically be the one given as part of a green fee.

Step 2

You must decide on:

  • How many bucket sizes do you want (max. 4)
  • How big are the bucket sizes (how many balls)
  • The price for each individual bucket size. (Since the discount is also given via the bonus in step 3, many clubs choose not to give a special big one, or no discount at all on the bucket sizes, so the price per ball will be more or less the same)
  • Possibly. cheaper / more expensive times of the week/day if there is a need or desire to entice players from busy to less busy times.

Step 3

You must decide which Top-Up/Filling products you want:

An example could be:

DKK 200 + 20 extra (10% extra)
DKK 500 + 100 extra (20% extra)
DKK 1,000 + 300 extra (30% extra)

Such products can be configured to:

  • The product is NOT sold via the app, so only the staff can make the refill
  • The product is sold via the app, but ONLY to your members
  • Products are sold to EVERYONE via the app

You can have as many types of products as you want.

Step 4

What types of special ball cards should you have: (A validity date will be set for all the suggestions below)

  • Does anyone need completely free balls?
  • Does anyone want to have completely free balls, but with a restriction that with the ball card you can only use X points within Y minutes. In this way, you make the ball card personal, so that balls cannot be distributed to everyone on the range.
  • Does anyone need a bonus on X-points. Some clubs give e.g. 500 points in bonus every year to its members. If they spend more than the 500 points, then they have to top up the rest themselves. Our system will always use the bonus before the regular points.

For all the above solutions, it applies that we can import an Excel/CSV file from e.g. GolfBox, after which an email is sent to everyone on the list within a short time that they have now received their bonus or virtual ball cards.
